WCHD vision and hearing program celebrates 50 years of providing screenings
The Will County Health Department’s vision and hearing screening program has been providing screenings to children for more than 50 years. While documentation only dates back 50 years, the Will County Health Department’s technicians have provided screenings to more than 1 million children. In the 1990s, the health department’s vision and hearing screening program screened between 55,000 and 65,000 children each year. This number has dwindled to 13,000 annually in recent years. However, Will County Executive Larry Walsh Sr. attended the event to test the screening equipment.
COVID-19 vaccination clinic hours
The Will County Health Department announced extended COVID-19 vaccine clinic hours. The Joliet branch will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The Bolingbrook branch will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. These hours were implemented in response to decreased demand. The clinic is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Vaccines are offered for individuals age five to 17 who have a medical history of the disease. These are given indoors and require an appointment. Children aged five to 11 can also receive the vaccine at the Will County Health Department. It is important to visit the clinic at least twice before the deadline to avoid a missed vaccination.
